SUMMER SCHOOL
Tra le azioni programmatiche, lo IASEM mette al suo centro le attività di alta formazione, al fine di offrire ai giovani che intendono lavorare nell’area mediterranea e alle future classi dirigenti approfondimenti utili e strumenti interpretativi necessari a capire i contesti culturali, geo-politici ed economici in cui si andrà ad operare.
Summer School in Euro Mediterranean Strategies 11-14 September 2013 - Maratea, Italy

La Summer School ha avuto come tema “Strategie euro-mediterranee – Politica, economica e dinamiche sociali” (V edizione). I 4 giorni intensivi di formazione hanno approfondito una serie di questioni strategiche nell’area del Mediterraneo, rintracciando le maggiori criticità e opportunità che caratterizzano la congiuntura geopolitica ed economica. Questioni essenziali, quali i fermenti sociali nella Turchia di Erdogan, l’evoluzione del conflitto siriano e le sue conseguenze, le istanze democratiche emerse durante le cosiddette “primavere arabe” e non ancora soddisfatte, il peso geo-economico dei Paesi del Golfo, il ruolo dei Paesi europei nello scacchiere mediterraneo, ecc. rendono il Mediterraneo il luogo della complessità, ma anche delle grandi opportunità, sia in campo economico che politico.

Summer School in Strategie Euro Mediterranee 26-31 Agosto 2013 – Izmir, Turchia

At the Yasar University Campus in Izmir, the Summer School was held on the theme "TOWARDS AN INTEGRATED MEDITERRANEAN MARKET: STRATEGIES AND ANALYSIS" (IV edition). The training week saw an international participation, with students from Turkey, Syria, UK, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Italy, Nigeria.
È stato un momento di incontro e di studio, con approfondimenti sulle maggiori tematiche dell’attualità mediterranea. In particolare sono stati affrontati i seguenti temi: The Role of the UN in the Euro-Med (Ambassador Rt. Ertugrul Apakan); Political, strategic and Economic Dynamics in the Euro-Med (Prof. Aylin Guney – Yasar University); Mediterranean Institutions in a historical perspective (Prof. Valeria Piacentini – Catholic University of Milan); Mediterranean Trade: trends and opportunities. Special focus on Turkish-Italian Relationships (Igor Di Bernardini – Italian Consulate, Izmir – and Rebii Akdurak – President of Italian Chamber of Commerce, Izmir); Religions and Economy in the Mediterranean Area: History and Perspectives (Dr. Salvatore Drago– University of Messina); The Role of Women in Euro-Med Zone from Socio-Economic Perspective (Asst. Prof. Meltem INCE); Externalization of Migration Policies in the EU and Mediterranean (Dr. Ayselin Yildiz- Yasar University); Energy Geopolitics of the Eastern Mediterranean (Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Iseri-Yasar University); Securitization of Migration Policies in Southern Europe (Dr. Gokay Ozerim-Yasar University); Political Economy of the Arab Middle East and Energy (Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Iseri- Yasar university); Euro-Med strategies and the promotion of democracy (Assoc. Prof. Aslihan Celenk-Erciyes University).
During the Summer School, a visit was also made to the NATO base in Izmir, where a number of issues related to Mediterranean security were addressed.

Summer School in Euro-Mediterranean Strategies 16-21 July 2012 - Ostuni, Italy

In the splendid setting of the "White City" and with the partnership of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Summer School was held on the theme "The Concept of Democracy" (III edition). The transformations of political structures in many countries of the southern shore of the Mediterranean and the strong system crises that have invested the countries of the northern shore have led analysts and citizens to question what is really a democratic system and how to reach the construction of a fully-fledged democracy. Young researchers from various Mediterranean countries (attendance was recorded from Italy, Lebanon, Egypt, Israel, Morocco, Greece) were invited to discuss a paper on the subject.
An articulated debate has developed on how democracy, on the one hand, seems to be the fulfillment of humanity’s deepest libertarian aspirations, but, on the other, also poses the problem of respect for a system of ethical reference values, without which it would be emptied and would no longer fulfil its essential task.

Summer School in Euro Mediterranean Strategies 21-23 July 2011 Maratea, Italy

Lo IASEM ha organizzato, in collaborazione con KAS – Konrad Adenauer Stiftung – e RFI – Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, il summer course in Strategie Euro-Mediterranee. Il corso ha toccato tutti i maggiori temi geopolitici, strategici ed economici che riguardano l’attualità mediterranea e ha visto la presenza di studenti di varie nazionalità, dall’Iran, dagli USA, dalla Grecia, dall’Italia. Il corpo docente ha contato la presenza di esperti e ricercatori di calibro internazionale, dalla prof.ssa Valeria Fiorani Piacentini, direttrice del CRISSMA, al dr. Ettore Greco, direttore dell’IAI, alla dr.ssa Elena Maestri, ricercatrice presso l’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, al prof. Paolo Garonna, direttore generale dell’ANIA e direttore dello IASEM. Il corso si è concluso con la conferenza dal titolo “La Casa Comune Mediterranea”, cui hanno partecipato, tra gli altri, il Vicepresidente del Parlamento Europeo, l’On. Gianni Pittella, il responsabile Europa del Ministero italiano degli Affari Esteri, il Min. Plen. Cosimo Risi, l’incaricato d’affari dell’Ambasciata del Regno Hashemita di Giordania, il dr. Firas Khouri, la direttrice della KAS – sede di Roma, la dr.ssa Katja Plate, il prof. Mohammed Jouili dall’Università La Manouba di Tusini, ecc. La formazione e la divulgazione su temi geopolitici ed economici rappresenta una priorità dello IASEM e la Summer School è un irrinunciabile momento di confronto e apertura.

Summer School in Euro-Mediterranean Strategies 18-24 July 2010 - Maratea, Italy

21 students followed the full immersion of 7 days, addressing complex issues such as nuclear proliferation, complex systems applied to intelligence, the relationship between the EU and Turkey, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Tra i docenti sono intervenuti il Prof. Stefano Silvestri (Presidente IAI – Istituto di Affari Internazionali), il Min. Plen. Cosimo Risi (Ministero degli Affari Esteri), la Prof.ssa Valeria Piacentini (Direttrice del C.R.I.S.S.M.A. di Milano), il Prof. Paolo Garonna (Segretario Generale ABI )
Hans-Gert Pöttering, former EU President and President of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, spoke at the opening conference on 18 July.
The school also proposed a workshop in navigation (on the North Star) which developed the theme of energy resources and the environment, in the presence of experts, such as On. Gianfranco Blasi (SEL - Società Energetica Lucana), Dr. Sergio De Simone (Codra Mediterranea Srl - Fondazione Systema Naturae), Dr. Antonio Miele (Confartigianato), Dr. Giuseppina Costanini (APEA), Arch Massimiliano Burgi (Ipogea).
The Summer School concluded with a conference entitled "Is a political Mediterranean possible?" , which took place on July 24 at Villa Tarantini and in which I intervened Sen. Emilio Colombo, Hon. Gianni Pittella, Eng. Giuseppe Papaleo, Dr. Pierpaolo Grezzi, Dr. Nicola Pagliuca, Prof. Paolo Garonna, Min. Plen. Cosimo Risi and Mario Di Trani, mayor of Maratea.
